Zac Farro is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He began his career as the drummer for the rock band, Paramore, He has been apart of the band since its creation in 2004 in Franklin, Tennessee when Farro was just 14 years old. He played drums for them until 2010, when he left to pursue his own music. This is when he began his solo project, Halfnoise. Halfnoise originated in Franklin, TN and can be described as ‘a fusion of indie rock that’s part sunny and fruity, part trippy and psychedelic'. In early 2017, Farro rejoined Paramore as the drummer and is currently an active member of both bands.
Given this project type, I dove into my research wanting to try to understand him and his lifestyle as best as possible. Finding out about what Farro cares about and prioritizes in his life were important for me to design a space that could truly be a home. He cherishes authenticity, most importantly to his music. Maintaining a close friendship with his bandmates is essential and cultivating authentic relationships with his friends and his art is necessary. His personality exudes creativity and thoughtfulness. His art is not trying to impress anyone, it is solely self expression.
My concept was based around three words that I felt captured Farro's persona. Starting with the words, I chose images I felt symbolized them, and then abstracted their ideas further with sketches and quick models.
Psychedelic describes the mood his music evokes.
Vintage expresses the overall aesthetic of Farro's art.
Romantic undertones permeate through his music and writings.
